Standard ENMethods of Sampling and Testing Asphalt - Voids and Volumetric Properties of Compacted Asphalt Mixes
Also Known As:
AS/NZS 2891.8:2014 provides a standardized method for testing and sampling asphalt to determine its voids and volumetric properties when compacted. The standard outlines the process for calculating the percentage of air voids based on the bulk density and maximum density of the asphalt. It also covers the determination of other properties such as absorbed binder, effective binder, maximum theoretical density, voids in the mineral aggregate, and voids filled with binder. The standard includes Appendix A, which demonstrates the relationship between these properties.
However, it should be noted that if the air void content of in-situ compacted asphalt is required for compaction compliance testing, it should be determined according to AS/NZS 2891.14.5. This standard can be used to determine air void content for laboratory-compacted asphalt and field samples for investigation purposes. AS/NZS 2891.14.5, on the other hand, is specifically designed for determining percentage compaction and percentage in-situ air voids for compaction compliance testing.
