Standard EN SampleTimber Structures - Fire Resistance of Timber Elements
Also Known As:
AS/NZS 1720.4:2019 standard outlines a method of determining the fire resistance of various timber elements used in construction, including solid sawn timber, timber in pole form, plywood, laminated veneer lumber (LVL), and glued-laminated structural timber elements. This method is an alternative to the standard fire test specified in AS 1530.4 for Australia and New Zealand, as well as the NZS/BS 476 series and EN 1365 series for New Zealand only.
In addition to determining fire resistance, the standard also provides methods for protecting metal connectors from the effects of fire. It should be noted that this standard does not address the determination of early fire hazard properties of materials, as this is covered in AS/NZS 1530.3.
Appendix B of the standard includes an advanced calculation method that offers guidance for an additional way to determine fire resistance. This provides users with an alternative approach to assess the fire resistance of timber elements.
