Standard EN SampleTimber Structures: Fire Resistance for Structural Adequacy of Timber Members
Also Known As:
The AS 1720.4:2006 standard outlines a computational method for determining the fire resistance of various types of structural timber members. This method is an alternative to the test specified in AS 1530.4. The standard covers solid timber, plywood, laminated veneer lumber (LVL), and glued-laminated structural timber members.
In addition to fire resistance calculations for timber members, this standard also provides methods for protecting metal connectors from the effects of fire. It ensures that the structural integrity of timber members is not compromised due to the high temperatures and potential fire hazards.
It is important to note that this standard does not address the determination of the early fire hazard properties of materials, for which the assessment method is outlined in AS/NZS 1530.3. Furthermore, the AS 1720.4:2006 standard is not applicable for structural accreditation through furnace testing, which is covered by AS 1530.4.
