TACT, Thesaurus of Australian Construction Terms
Also Known As: SA HB 23:1992, AS HB 23:1992
HB 23:1992, titled TACT (Thesaurus of Australian Construction Terms), is a standard that provides a comprehensive collection of terms related to building and construction in Australia. It was developed as part of the NCRB Technical Information System for the Australian Building and Construction Industry, funded by a BRDAC Australian Building Research Grant.
The standard consists of approximately 4800 primary entries or descriptors, along with almost 1500 secondary entries that are non-descriptors. These terms cover a wide range of construction-related activities and are presented in an alphabetical order. The standard also includes hierarchical relationships, such as broader and narrower terms, associative relationships with related terms, and preference relationships indicating the appropriate use of terms.
In line with the recommendations of the International Standard ISO 2788:1986, the standard follows rules for the selection of terms, their style, and presentation. It aims to provide a consistent and standardized terminology for the construction industry in Australia. Additionally, the standard includes a helpful appendix that contains key geographic terms and references.
