Standard EN SampleGuide to Long-Life Coatings for Concrete and Masonry - Latex - Textured Coatings - Non-Aggregate
Also Known As:
AS/NZS 4548.3:1999 (R2013) is a standard that provides a guide to long-life textured coatings for concrete and masonry. These coatings do not contain aggregates and are intended for both interior and exterior use. They are typically applied using airless spray, hopper spray, or roller techniques, following the manufacturer's instructions.
The paints covered by this standard are classified as paint Type 38 of AS 2311 and correspond to the Australian Paint Approval Scheme specification Type 3 of GPC-C-117. Non-aggregate, low to medium profile textured latex coatings are chosen for their aesthetic appeal and decorative profiles, depending on the application technique used. The spreading rate of these coatings ranges from 1.0 to 2.0 m2/L (1.0 to 0.5 L/m2).
It is important to note that these coatings are usually part of a system that includes a topcoat specified in AS/NZS 4548.2, which provides maximum resistance to moisture ingress and dirt pick-up. However, they are not suitable for horizontal surfaces where water ponding is possible. These coatings are commonly used in systems that may include a sealer and multiple coats.
For additional guidance, AS/NZS 4548.5 provides a test that can be used to check the cure of concrete and masonry surfaces before applying the sealer. Appendix A of the standard also provides further information on the use of long-life coatings for concrete and masonry.
