Standard EN SampleDiesel Engine Systems for Underground Coal Mines - Explosion Protected
Also Known As:
AS/NZS 3584.2:2008 is a standard that outlines the safety requirements for diesel engine systems used in underground coal mines. The purpose of this standard is to mitigate the risk of explosions caused by flammable gases and dust that may be present in these environments.
Compliance with this standard ensures that diesel engine systems are designed to operate safely in atmospheres containing up to 1 percent methane. Measures such as controlling surface temperature to prevent ignition of coal dust, eliminating flames and sparks that can ignite flammable gases and dust, and controlling diesel emissions are included in this standard.
Additionally, the standard addresses the issue of inadvertent short-term exposure to high levels of methane and the potential abnormal combustion that can result from it.
The standard also includes guidance in Appendix A for demonstrating compliance with the requirements outlined in AS/NZS 3584.2:2008.
