The DIN EN ISO/IEC 80079-38/A1 standard defines the requirements for the construction and labeling of equipment and components used in underground mines that are potentially exposed to explosive atmospheres containing firedamp or combustible dust. This standard is applicable to equipment used in all stages of mining operations, including exploration, extraction, and transportation.
The standard includes amendments to Annexes ZA and ZB, which provide additional guidance and requirements for the conformity assessment procedures. Annex ZA deals with equipment intended for use in areas classified as Zone 0 or Zone 20, where explosive atmospheres are present continuously or for long periods. Annex ZB, on the other hand, pertains to equipment used in areas classified as Zone 1 or Zone 21, where explosive atmospheres are likely to occur occasionally or for short durations.
