The ASTM C317/C317M-00 (R2019) standard is a specification for gypsum concrete. Gypsum concrete is a type of material that is used in the construction of poured-in-place roof decks or slabs. It is composed of calcined gypsum, suitable aggregate, and requires the addition of water only at the job site.
The standard defines two classes of gypsum concrete based on compressive strength and density. It specifies the proportions of calcined gypsum, aggregates, wood chips, or wood shavings that should be added to meet the requirements of the specification.
The standard also outlines the test methods that should be performed to determine the physical properties of the gypsum concrete, including the setting time which is determined using the Vicat method.
