Standard ENStandard Test Method for Coking Value of Tar and Pitch (Modified Conradson)
Also Known As:
ASTM D2416-20 is a standard test method used to determine the coking value of tar and pitch samples. This test is useful for assessing the relative propensity of these materials to form coke and for characterizing and evaluating tars and pitches. Additionally, it can be used to assess the consistency and uniformity of shipments or sources of supply.
The test method entails determining the coking value of tar and pitch samples that have an ash content not exceeding 0.5%, as determined by Test Method D2415. The coking values obtained through this test method are comparable to those achieved through Test Method D189, but the results obtained are more reproducible. The apparatus used in this test is identical to that used in Test Method D189, except that an electric furnace is employed instead of a gas flame.
