Standard ENStandard Test Method for Asphalt Content of Asphalt Mixture by Ignition Method
Also Known As:
The ASTM D6307-19 standard provides a procedure for the quantitative determination of asphalt content in asphalt mixture and pavement samples. This test method is used for quality control purposes, specification acceptance, and mixture evaluation studies. It does not require the use of solvents, making it a convenient and environmentally friendly option.
The standard specifies that the asphalt content is determined by removing the asphalt cement in an ignition furnace, using either the convection method or direct irradiation method for sample heating. By measuring the weight loss of the sample after burning off the asphalt cement, the asphalt content can be calculated.
The standard also highlights the possibility of using the aggregate obtained from this test method for sieve analysis, according to Test Method D5444. However, it notes that some aggregates may experience particle size degradation during this process.
