The standard covers various materials used in the production of ready-mixed concrete, including cementitious materials, hydraulic cement, supplementary cementitious materials, cementitious concrete mixtures, aggregates, air-entraining admixtures, and chemical admixtures. These materials are to be measured by mass, unless otherwise permitted.

The standard also defines the types of mixers and agitators that can be used in the production and delivery of ready-mixed concrete, namely stationary mixers, truck mixers, and truck agitators. It also specifies the required test methods for evaluating the properties of the concrete, such as compression, air content, slump, and temperature. For strength testing, at least two standard test specimens must be made.

It is important to note that this standard does not cover the placement, consolidation, curing, or protection of the concrete after delivery to the purchaser. Additionally, the specification includes explanatory notes and footnotes that provide additional information but are not considered requirements of the standard.
