Standard ENStandard Specification for Slag Cement for Use in Concrete and Mortars
Also Known As:
The ASTM C989/C989M-18a standard specifies three strength grades of finely ground granulated blast-furnace slag (Grades 80, 100, and 120) for use as a cementitious material in concrete and mortars. The slag must not contain any additional materials and must meet the chemical composition requirements for sulfide sulfur and sulfate. The physical properties of the slag, including fineness, slag activity index, and compressive strength, must also meet the specified requirements.
The standard notes that the material described in this specification can be used for blending with portland cement to produce a cement that meets the requirements of Specification C595/C595M. It can also be used as a separate ingredient in concrete or mortar mixtures, as well as in special grouts and mortars. The standard provides additional technical information in Appendix X1, Appendix X2, and Appendix X3, and refers to ACI 233R-17 for more detailed information on the use of this material.
It is important to note that the standard includes references to explanatory notes and footnotes, which provide additional information but are not considered requirements of the standard.
