Standard ENStandard Specification for Polyethylene (PE) and Cement Materials for an Encapsulated Cement Mortar Formed in Place Liner System (FIPLS) for the Rehabilitation of Water Pipelines
Also Known As:
The ASTM F2718-09 (R2015) standard is titled "Standard Specification for Polyethylene (PE) and Cement Materials for an Encapsulated Cement Mortar Formed in Place Liner System (FIPLS) for the Rehabilitation of Water Pipelines." This standard outlines the requirements and test methods for materials used in a semi-structural liner system designed to rehabilitate water pipelines.
The liner and cement mortar in this system are made from polyethylene (PE) material that meets specific minimum physical properties. The liner is installed by inserting a folded, collapsed PE liner into the existing pipeline. It is then expanded by means of an air pressure propelled pig, rounding it against the interior surface of the original pipe.
Once rounded, the liner is maintained under pressure until the cement mortar cures, at which point it becomes self-supporting. The cement mortar is pumped into the annulus between the liner and the original pipe to fill the ring cavity.
This standard applies to pipelines with nominal sizes ranging from 4 inches to 12 inches. It does not have a similar or equivalent ISO standard.
