Standard ENStandard Practice for Rehabilitation of a Sewer Service Lateral and Its Connection to the Main Using a One Piece Main and Lateral Cured-in-Place Liner
Also Known As:
ASTM F2561-20 is a standard practice that outlines the requirements and test methods for the rehabilitation of a sewer service lateral and its connection to the main using a one-piece main and lateral cured-in-place liner (MLCIPL). This practice is intended for use by designers, specifiers, regulatory agencies, owners, and inspection organizations involved in sewer lateral rehabilitation.
The standard covers the reconstruction of sewer service laterals with an inner diameter of 3 to 12 inches and their connection to main pipes with an inner diameter of 6 to 24 inches, without the need for excavation. The rehabilitation process involves accessing the lateral pipe remotely from the main pipe and lateral access point. A resin-impregnated one-piece MLCIPL is installed by air inflation and inversion, pressing it against the host pipe using a bladder. The MLCIPL is held in place until the thermoset resins cure, resulting in a continuous, tight-fitting, corrosion-resistant lining that extends over a predetermined length of the lateral pipe and adjacent section of the main pipe. This lining provides a verifiable non-leaking structural connection and seal.
It is noted that there is no similar or equivalent ISO standard for this practice.
