Standard ENStandard Test Method for Electrical Resistivity of Membrane-Pavement Systems
Also Known As:
The ASTM D3633/D3633M-12 (R2019) standard is a test method for measuring the electrical resistivity of water-barrier membrane-pavement systems when applied to concrete bridge decks. This test method is used to determine the effectiveness of such systems by measuring the electrical resistance between the saturated top surface of the water-barrier membrane and the reinforcing steel embedded in the concrete bridge deck.
The standard specifies that an electrical connection between the pavement surface and the reinforcing steel cannot be made through an impermeable water-barrier membrane. This implies that a low electrical resistivity indicates a higher probability of the water-barrier membrane being effective in preventing electrical connection between the pavement surface and the reinforcing steel.
This test method can be used for acceptance purposes when the accepting agency specifies the desired minimum resistance value. It is important to note that the resistance values obtained using this test method may not necessarily correlate with those obtained using different equipment or procedures.
