Standard ENStandard Test Method for Absorption of Chemical-Resistant Mortars, Grouts, Monolithic Surfacings, and Polymer Concretes
Also Known As:
ASTM C413-18 is a standard test method that determines the absorption of chemical-resistant mortars, grouts, monolithic surfacings, and polymer concretes. The test method covers materials that are based on resin, silicate, silica, or sulfur binders.
The standard emphasizes that the results obtained from this test should be used as a guide, but not as the sole basis, for selecting a chemical-resistant material for a particular application. It acknowledges that the test method does not consider all the various factors that may affect a material's performance in actual service conditions.
Furthermore, it clarifies that this test method is not intended to measure or indicate the permeability properties of the materials tested.
The standard also outlines the different mold methods to be used based on the size of aggregates present in the systems being tested. Mold Method A is used for systems with aggregates less than 0.0625 in. in size, Method B for aggregates between 0.0625 to 0.4 in., and Method C for aggregates larger than 0.4 in.
