Samples for controlling the product at the source of manufacture, storage, or at the site of use are obtained by the manufacturer, contractor, or other relevant parties. Samples for acceptance or rejection decisions by the purchaser are obtained by the purchaser or their authorized representative.

It is important to note that this standard is not applicable for sampling of compacted bituminous paving mixtures, and the sampling practice outlined in ASTM D5361 should be used in such cases.
