Standard ENStandard Test Method for Rapid Assessment of Static Segregation Resistance of Self-Consolidating Concrete Using Penetration Test
Also Known As:
The ASTM C1712-20 standard is a test method used for the rapid assessment of the static segregation resistance of self-consolidating concrete (SCC). It is designed to quickly determine whether static segregation is likely to occur in SCC mixtures before placement in the field or during mixture development in the laboratory.
The standard highlights that the method provides a more rapid assessment compared to Test Method C1610/C1610M for static segregation of SCC, which is not efficient enough. It also mentions that the Visual Stability Index as determined through the procedure described in Appendix X1 of Test Method C1611/C1611M is subjective and qualitative.
The standard notes that Appendix X1 provides non-mandatory criteria that can be used to indicate the degree of static segregation resistance of self-consolidating concrete mixtures.
It is important to note that this test method is specifically applicable to self-consolidating concrete with normal-weight and saturated surface dry (SSD) coarse aggregates within certain ranges. Testing is recommended for SCC mixtures outside of these ranges to establish a correlation between penetration depth and static segregation. Additionally, this standard should not be used for SCC containing lightweight aggregates or heavyweight aggregates without prior correlation testing.
