Standard ENStandard Test Method for Static Segregation of Self-Consolidating Concrete Using Column Technique
Also Known As:
ASTM C1610/C1610M-21 is a standard test method that provides users with a procedure to determine the potential static segregation of self-consolidating concrete (SCC). Self-consolidating concrete is a fluid concrete that can be prone to segregation if not properly proportioned to be cohesive. The degree of segregation is an important factor to consider, especially for deep-section applications such as walls or columns. This test method measures the coarse aggregate content in the top and bottom portions of a cylindrical specimen or column.
It is important to note that this test method may not be rapid enough to evaluate SCC mixtures in the field before placement. Therefore, Test Method C1712 is recommended for a rapid assessment of static segregation resistance of SCC in field conditions. However, some level of segregation may be tolerable as long as the desired strength and durability performance is achieved.
This test method is not applicable to self-consolidating concrete containing lightweight aggregate. It can be used in both laboratory and field conditions. The standard includes references to explanatory notes and footnotes, which provide additional information but should not be considered as requirements of the standard.
