ASTM D6704-08 (R2015) is a standard test method for determining the workability of asphalt cold mix patching materials. This test method can be used to evaluate the potential characteristics of handling, placing, compaction, and performance of asphalt cold mix. Workability is an essential factor in determining the suitability and performance of asphalt cold mix for use as a roadway patching material.

This test method is applicable to asphalt cold mixes that are manufactured using modified or unmodified asphalt emulsions, cutback asphalts, or combinations of these materials. The purpose of this test is to assess the workability of asphalt cold mix patching materials that will be stockpiled or packaged in containers, subjected to various climatic conditions, and later used for roadway patching operations.

It is important to note that the within-laboratory repeatability standard deviation for this test method has been determined to be 10% based on one laboratory, three test replicates, and two different samples. However, the between-laboratory reproducibility is still being determined and will be available by August 2013. As a result, this test method should not be used for purchasing purposes until the reproducibility is determined.
