The ASTM D227/D227M-03 (R2018) standard is a specification that covers coal-tar-saturated organic felt used in roofing and waterproofing applications. This material is intended to be used in conjunction with coal-tar pitches that meet the requirements outlined in the ASTM D450/D450M specification.
In the manufacturing process, a single layer of dry felt is saturated with refined coal-tar, from which some of the more volatile components have been removed.
