ASTM F1499-17 is a standard specification that covers coextruded composite drain, waste, and vent pipe (DWV). This type of pipe is produced in Schedule 40 IPS sizes using a coextrusion die system, in which the layers are formed and combined before exiting the die. Coextruded composite DWV pipe is allowed to have two or more layers, with the outer layer being made of ABS. The middle layer can be thermally foamed PVC, solid PVC, or a blend of rework material, while the inner layer can be solid PVC, ABS, or a blend of rework material.

The purpose of this specification is to provide standardization, technical data, and serve as a purchasing guide for coextruded composite DWV pipes. It specifies the materials, dimensions, physical properties, and performance requirements of these pipes. The pipes are tested for parameters such as outside diameter, wall thickness, length, pipe flattening, pipe stiffness, impact strength, and bond. The inside and outside surfaces of the pipes must be free of chalking, sticky, or tacky material, and should not show excessive bloom. Foreign inclusions or any visible defects that could affect the integrity of the pipe are not allowed.

This standard also mentions that the pipes produced according to ASTM F1499-17 can be joined using molded fittings that meet the requirements of other specifications, such as ASTM D2661 or ASTM F628. The fitting patterns must comply with ASTM D3311. Perforation of the pipe can be done as per specified standards or through an agreement between the purchaser and the supplier. The pipe can also be belled for joining by solvent cementing or by an elastomeric seal (gasket), in accordance with specified standards or agreements.
