Standard ENStandard Specification for Joint Sealants, Hot Applied, Jet Fuel Resistant Types, for Portland Cement Concrete Pavements
Also Known As:
The ASTM D7116-16 (R2021) standard is a specification that outlines the requirements for the use of joint sealants in sealing joints and cracks in Portland cement concrete pavements that are subject to fuel spillage. The standard defines three types of joint sealants: Type I, Type II, and Type III.
Type I sealants are resilient and suitable for use in hot to moderate climates, while Type II sealants are also suitable for hot to moderate climates but have additional capabilities. Type III sealants, on the other hand, are able to maintain an effective seal in most climates experiencing moderate to cold temperatures.
The standard specifies various tests to evaluate the performance of the joint sealants. These tests include assessments of specimen conditioning, cone penetration, aged cone penetration retention, softening point, non-immersed bond, water immersed bond, fuel immersed bond, resilience, oven aged resilience, tensile adhesion, artificial weathering, and flexibility.
