Standard ENStandard Specification for Joint Compound and Joint Tape for Finishing Gypsum Board
Also Known As:
The ASTM C475/C475M-17 standard is titled "Standard Specification for Joint Compound and Joint Tape for Finishing Gypsum Board." It covers all-purpose, taping and finishing joint compounds, paper joint tape, and glass-mesh joint tape. These materials are designed to be used with gypsum board installed in accordance with Specification C840.
The standard specifies the minimum requirements for various physical properties of the joint compounds and joint tapes. This includes properties such as putrefaction, shrinkage, joint tape width, thickness, and tensile strength. Tests are also required, such as the dimensional stability test, assembly of taping or all-purpose compound and joint tape test, bond test, edge cracking test, and skewness test for paper joint tape.
The specification also includes notes and footnotes that provide explanatory material, which should not be considered as requirements of the standard, except for those in tables and figures. Additionally, the standard allows for the values to be stated in either inch-pound or SI (metric) units, with both systems to be used independently and not combined.
