Standard Test Methods for Joint Treatment Materials for Gypsum Board Construction

ASTM C474-15 (R2020) standard provides guidelines for the physical testing of joint treatment materials used in gypsum board construction. The standard covers various materials such as joint compound, paper joint tape, glass-mesh joint tape, and the assembly of joint compound and paper joint tape.
The standard specifies test methods for different properties of these materials. For joint compound, the test methods include viscosity, shrinkage, check cracking, and putrefaction. Tensile strength, width, and thickness are tested for joint tape, while dimensional stability is tested for paper joint tape. Assemblages of paper joint tape and joint compound are tested for the bond of paper joint tape to joint compound and cracking of joint compound at tape edges. Glass-mesh joint tape is tested for skewness.
