Standard ENStandard Specification for Prefaced Concrete and Calcium Silicate Masonry Units
Also Known As:
The ASTM C744-16 standard is a specification for prefaced concrete and calcium silicate masonry units. These units have exposed surfaces that are coated with resin, resin and inert filler, or cement and inert filler during the manufacturing process. The purpose of these coatings is to create a smooth and resinous tile-facing finish.
This standard outlines the requirements and testing procedures for the facings of these prefaced masonry units. The facings must meet specific criteria for resistance to crazing, cracking, or spalling, as well as resistance to chemicals, adhesion, abrasion, and surface-burning characteristics. The standard also addresses other factors such as color, tint, texture, and the ability to be cleaned and resistant to soiling.
It is important to note that this standard does not apply to ground-face concrete masonry units, which are manufactured by grinding a thin layer off the surface of a concrete masonry unit to expose the aggregates within and polishing it to achieve a smooth architectural finish.
