Standard EN SampleSurface Dressing: Requirements
Also Known As:
BS EN 12271:2006 is a standard that sets out the requirements and control procedures for the installation of surface dressing on roads and other trafficked areas. Surface dressing involves applying layers of binder and chippings to the road surface.
The standard specifies the performance requirements for constituent materials such as binders and chippings, as well as the application of the surface dressing itself. It addresses various aspects such as defects, macrotexture, binder-aggregate adhesivity, and characterizing noise generation. The durability of the surface dressing is also covered, including requirements for skid resistance.
BS EN 12271 does not apply to surface dressings designed by the purchaser, surface dressings in tunnels or areas where fire regulations apply, small areas of surface dressing on roads less than 500 m2, or aircraft pavements covered by international regulations.
The standard also includes sections on evaluation of conformity, factory production control, minimum inspection/test frequencies, type approval installation trial, and clauses addressing the provisions of the EU Construction Products Directive.
