Standard EN SampleSlurry Surfacing: Requirements
Also Known As:
BS EN 12273:2008 Slurry surfacing. Requirements is a standard that specifies the performance requirements and control procedures for the installation of slurry surfacing as a product for the surface treatment of roads and other trafficked areas, such as footways and cycleways. This standard focuses on slurry surfacing projects that are larger in scale (greater than 500 m2) and excludes minor repairs or small areas of slurry surfacing.
The standard does not apply to slurry surfacing designed by the purchaser or slurry surfacing carried out in tunnels in terms of reaction to fire. It also excludes pavements that are covered by international regulations, such as the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations for airfields.
Slurry surfacing is defined as a surface treatment consisting of a mixture of aggregates, bituminous emulsion, water, and additives, which is mixed and laid in-place. The product may consist of one or more layers.
The standard includes various sections, such as scope, normative references, terms and definitions, symbols, requirements for constituent materials (such as binders and aggregates), requirements for slurry surfacing (including defects, skid resistance, and noise generation), requirements for durability, evaluation of conformity, and annexes covering factory production control and installation trials. Additionally, there is an informative annex that addresses the provisions of the EU Construction Product Directive and provides guidance on attestation of conformity and CE marking.
