Standard EN SampleStructural Bearings - Guide Bearings and Restraint Bearings
Also Known As:
BS EN 1337-8:2007 is a standard that specifies the requirements for the design and manufacture of guide bearings and restraint bearings. Guide bearings are bearings that provide restraint in one horizontal direction, accommodate rotations, and do not transmit vertical loads. On the other hand, restraint bearings prevent movements in the horizontal plane, accommodate rotations, and do not transmit vertical loads.
These types of bearings are designed to transmit horizontal forces, allow vertical movements, allow movements in one or no horizontal directions, allow rotations, generate low resistance to movement, and have durability appropriate to their intended use. While they are not meant to transmit vertical loads, they can be combined with other bearings that do handle vertical loads.
The standard is useful for designers and manufacturers of bearings, as well as construction workers, conformity assessors, quality control officers, and testers involved in the technical aspects of bearings. The contents of the standard include scope, normative references, terms, definitions, symbols, and abbreviations, functional requirements, material properties, design rules, manufacturing tolerances and corrosion protection, and conformity evaluation.
