Structural bearings - Part 8: Guide Bearings and Restraint Bearings
Also Known As:
DIN EN 1337-8 standard focuses on the specifications for guide bearings and restraint bearings. These types of bearings are used to restrict movements in the horizontal plane without transmitting vertical loads.
Guide bearings specifically provide restraint in one direction while allowing movement in a perpendicular direction. On the other hand, restraint bearings are designed to restrict movements in one or multiple directions within the horizontal plane.
These bearings can be attached to a structure separately from the bearings that resist vertical loads, or they can be mounted on a common base plate. By defining the guidelines for guide bearings and restraint bearings, this standard ensures that these devices can effectively and safely restrain horizontal movements in a structural system while allowing for appropriate degrees of freedom.
