Standard EN SampleExecution of Special Geotechnical Works: Displacement Piles
Also Known As:
The BS EN 12699:2015 standard provides general principles for the execution of displacement piles. Displacement piles are piles that are installed in the ground without excavation or removal of material, except for limiting heave and/or vibration and removing obstructions. These piles can be made of various materials, including steel, cast iron, concrete, mortar, timber, grout, or a combination of these materials. The standard covers prefabricated, cast in situ, or a combination of these methods to form displacement piles of regular shape.
The standard also states that displacement piles can be installed in soils that have been enhanced by ground improvement techniques. There are no limitations regarding the dimensions, shaft or base enlargements, length, or rake of the displacement piles, except for practical considerations. The standard is applicable to single piles, pile groups, and concrete sheet piles. However, it does not cover columns constructed by ground improvement techniques, bored piles, steel and timber sheet pile walls, or micropiles, as these are covered by other standards (EN 1536, EN 12063, and EN 14199, respectively).
