Standard EN SampleExecution of Special Geotechnical Work: Bored Piles
Also Known As:
BS EN 1536:2010+A1:2015 is a European standard that provides general principles for the execution of bored piles. The standard covers piles or barrettes that are formed in the ground by excavation and are used as structural members to transfer actions and/or limit deformations. It applies to piles with circular cross-sections and barrettes with rectangular, T, L, or similar cross-sections. The standard also covers piles with uniform cross-sections, telescopically changing shaft dimensions, excavated base enlargements, and excavated shaft enlargements.
The standard applies to bored piles with a depth to width ratio of 5 or less. It specifies dimensions for the shaft or base enlargements of bored piles and provides provisions for single bored piles, bored pile groups, and walls formed by piles. The excavation of bored piles can be done using continuous or discontinuous methods, with appropriate support methods for stabilizing the excavation walls.
The standard applies to bored piles constructed of unreinforced (plain) concrete, reinforced concrete, concrete with special reinforcement such as steel tubes or sections, and precast concrete or steel tube elements filled with concrete, cement, or cement-bentonite grout. However, it does not cover micropiles, mixed-in-place columns, columns constructed by jet grouting, ground improvement for piling, mixed-in-place pile bases, and diaphragm walls.
