Standard EN SampleBituminous Mixtures. Test Methods. Saturation Ageing Tensile Stiffness (SATS) Conditioning Test
Also Known As:
BS EN 12697-45:2020 is a standard that outlines a test method for evaluating the durability of adhesion in base and binder course asphalt mixtures. The Saturation Ageing Tensile Stiffness (SATS) conditioning test is utilized to subject the specimens to aging in the presence of water. A comparative analysis is also conducted to assess the performance of the specimens before and after conditioning.
This standard is only applicable to bituminous specimens with consistent air voids contents and hard binder, specifically asphalt concrete mixtures with a binder content ranging from 3.5% to 5.5%, air voids contents between 6% and 10%, and 10/20 pen hard paving grade bitumen. Its purpose is to serve as a screening test for evaluating the combination of aggregate, filler, and additives in terms of their retained adhesion properties after simulated aging in a moist atmosphere for lean/stiff base and binder course mixtures.
