Standard EN SampleDrilling and Foundation Equipment Safety: Horizontal Directional Drilling Equipment (HDD)
Also Known As:
The BS EN 16228-3:2014 standard is a European standard that focuses on the safety of horizontal directional drilling equipment (HDD). This standard aims to address all significant hazards associated with the use of HDD equipment, both when used as intended and under reasonably foreseeable misuse conditions.
This standard works in conjunction with part 1 of the standard and complements the common requirements outlined in EN 16228-1:2014. Rather than repeating the requirements from part 1, this document adds or replaces the requirements specifically applicable to horizontal directional drills.
A horizontal directional drill, as defined in this standard, is a machine designed for drilling in a shallow arc to install pipes, conduits, and cables. It typically has a drill string entry angle of less than 45° relative to the operating surface of the earth.
