BS EN 13043:2002 is a European Standard that specifies the properties of aggregates and filler aggregates used in bituminous mixtures and surface treatments for roads, airfields, and other trafficked areas. It covers aggregates obtained from natural, manufactured, or recycled materials, but does not include the use of reclaimed bituminous mixtures.

The standard provides a framework for evaluating the conformity of aggregate products to the requirements outlined in the standard. It is important to note that the requirements in the standard are based on the experience with aggregate types that have an established pattern of use. Therefore, when considering the use of aggregates from sources that do not have an established pattern of use, such as recycled aggregates or aggregates from certain industrial by-products, all the requirements of the standard must still be met. Additionally, these aggregates may have other characteristics not included in the standard, and local provisions can be used to assess their suitability for specific applications.

It is worth mentioning that properties for lightweight aggregates are specified in another standard, prEN 13055-2, and are not covered in BS EN 13043:2002.
