Standard EN SampleSpecification for Ancillary Components for Masonry: Lintels
Also Known As:
BS EN 845-2:2013+A1:2016 is a European standard that sets out the requirements for prefabricated lintels used in masonry construction. These lintels can have maximum spans of up to 4.5 meters and can be made from a variety of materials, including steel, autoclaved aerated concrete, manufactured stone, concrete, fired clay units, calcium silicate units, natural stone units, or a combination of these materials. It is important to note that this standard does not cover concrete and steel beams that conform to other specific standards.
The standard distinguishes between two types of prefabricated lintels: complete lintels and the prefabricated part of a composite lintel. It does not apply to lintels that are completely made on site or lintels where the tensile parts are made on site. It also excludes timber lintels and natural stone lintels that are not reinforced.
Additionally, the standard does not cover linear components of masonry walls that span clear openings greater than 4.5 meters. It also does not apply to linear components intended for use independently in a structural role, such as beams.
