Standard EN SampleMining: Mobile Machines Working Underground - Machine Safety
Also Known As:
The BS EN ISO 19296:2018 standard focuses on the safety requirements for self-propelled mobile machines used in underground mining. The standard aims to address the hazards, hazardous situations, and hazardous events associated with these machines when used in their intended manner or under foreseeable misuse.
The standard primarily covers risks related to the mobility of utility/service/support machines, such as movement from one location to another. However, it does not cover risks associated with additional functions like scaling, concrete spraying, bolting, charging, drilling, or attachments. It provides technical measures to eliminate or sufficiently reduce risks during commissioning, operation, and maintenance.
It is important to note that this standard does not include provisions for machines operating in potentially explosive atmospheres, air quality, and engine emissions. It also excludes certain types of machines, like those constrained to operate by rails, continuous miners, roadheaders, drill rigs, conveyors, long wall production equipment, tunnel boring machines (TBM), and mobile crushers.
