Standard EN SampleExecution of Special Geotechnical Work: Grouting
Also Known As:
BS EN 12715:2020 is a standard that provides guidelines for the execution, testing, and monitoring of geotechnical grouting work. Geotechnical grouting refers to the process of remotely placing a pumpable material in the ground by adjusting its rheological characteristics and placement parameters.
The standard covers two main principles and methods of geotechnical grouting: displacement grouting (compaction and compensation grouting) and grouting without displacement of the host material (permeation, fissure/contact grouting, bulk filling). Figure 1 in the standard illustrates the various injection methods associated with these two principles.
The principal objectives of geotechnical grouting include modifying the hydraulic/hydrogeological characteristics of the ground, modifying the mechanical properties of the ground, filling natural cavities or voids adjacent to structures, and inducing displacement to compensate for ground loss or stabilize and lift footings, slabs, and pavements.
It's important to note that specialized grouting activities associated with structural and/or emergency works are not covered by this standard. Additionally, the execution, testing, and monitoring of jet grouting work are not addressed in this document and are covered by a separate standard, EN 12716.
