Standard EN SampleFloor Cutting-Off Machines. Safety
Also Known As:
BS EN 13862:2021 is a standard that applies to pedestrian-controlled floor-sawing machines used for sawing, grooving, and milling floor surfaces made of concrete, asphalt, and similar mineral building materials. These machines can be powered by electric or internal combustion engines, with mechanical or hydraulic power transmission. The standard addresses all significant hazards, hazardous situations, and hazardous events related to floor-sawing machines. It specifies technical measures to eliminate or reduce risks associated with these hazards during the lifetime of the machinery.
The machines covered by this standard are designed for both wet and dry cutting, using rotating cutting-off wheels. These cutting-off wheels can be either diamond or boron nitride. However, the standard does not apply to self-propelled ride-on floor-sawing machines, machines moving along a rail, hand-held portable cutting-off machines mounted on a mobile support for use as floor saws, or remote-controlled machines.
The standard refers to floor-sawing machines as "machines" and cutting-off wheels as "tools". It applies to machines manufactured after the date of its approval by CEN (European Committee for Standardization).
