BS EN 12697-17:2017 is a standard that outlines a test method for measuring the particle loss of porous asphalt mixtures. The aim of this test is to determine the abrasion resistance of porous asphalt by assessing the loss of mass of asphalt samples after being subjected to rotations in the Los Angeles machine.
This test is applicable to laboratory compacted cylindrical specimens of porous asphalt mixtures, with an upper sieve size not exceeding 22.4 mm. However, it should be noted that this test does not accurately reflect the abrasive effect caused by studded tires.
