The BS EN 12390-13:2013 standard provides a method for determining the secant modulus of elasticity in compression of hardened concrete. This standard applies to both test specimens cast specifically for this purpose and samples removed from existing structures.
The standard allows for the determination of two different secant moduli of elasticity: the initial modulus (EC,0), which is measured during the first loading, and the stabilized modulus (EC,S), which is measured after three loading cycles. There are two different test methods provided in the standard. Method A is suitable for determining both the initial and stabilized moduli, while Method B is specifically for determining the stabilized modulus.
