Geotechnical Investigation and Testing - Field Testing - Part 15: Measuring While Drilling
Also Known As:
The DIN EN ISO 22476-15 standard provides guidelines for the measurement and analysis of drilling parameters during geotechnical investigations. The standard outlines the technical requirements for measuring equipment and the execution of the measuring while drilling (MWD) method in compliance with EN 1997-1 and EN 1997-2.
The MWD method involves measuring various drilling parameters such as depth, advancement rate, pull down pressure, torque, rotation rate, mud pressure, mud flow, vibration, penetration resistance, and soil-rock resistance. These parameters provide valuable information for creating a reliable geotechnical model and understanding the properties of the ground, including the lithology of the layers, density, weathering, presence of voids or faults, depth to rock, and permeability.
The standard describes the procedures for logging the measured parameters as a function of depth and provides guidelines for reporting this data for subsurface characterization. It is applicable for geotechnical investigations in natural soils, treated or untreated fills, and soft and hard rocks, both on land and offshore.
