Road Vertical Signs - Variable Message Traffic Signs
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 12966 standard provides specifications for two types of variable message signs (VMS): continuous and discontinuous. These signs are used for the information, guidance, warning, and direction of traffic in circulation areas, on public and private land, including tunnels. The standard covers mobile, temporary, and permanently installed VMS.
The standard specifies the visual and physical characteristics of VMS, ensuring their durability. It also includes requirements for test modules, which are used to demonstrate compliance with the standard. The standard provides for assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP) and marking.
It should be noted that the standard does not cover sign gantries, cantilevers, posts, signal heads, sizes and shapes of VMS messages, control units and monitoring units (unless inside the VMS), and control of sign luminance.
