Fire resistance and smoke control tests for door and shutter assemblies, openable windows and elements of building hardware - Part 1: Fire resistance test for door and shutter assemblies and openable windows

The DIN EN 1634-1 standard specifies a method for testing the fire resistance of door and shutter assemblies, as well as openable windows. It is designed to determine the ability of these elements to withstand fire and prevent the spread of fire and smoke through openings in vertical separating elements. The standard covers various types of doors, including hinged, pivoted, sliding, folding, tilting, and rolling shutter doors, as well as openable windows and operable fabric curtains.

This standard should be used in conjunction with EN 1363-1, which provides general methods for testing the fire resistance of various elements. It is important to note that fire dampers and closures for conveyor systems are tested under different standards (EN 1366-2 and EN 1366-7 respectively).

Additionally, the test sponsor may request additional information on specific elements of building hardware to meet performance criteria outlined in EN 1634-2. The results of the test should be documented in a separate report, which should comply with the requirements of EN 1634-2.

Furthermore, doors that are tested and classified according to this European Standard (EN 1634-1) and EN 13501-2 may be accepted as an alternative to EN 81-58 for lift landing door applications. However, it is important to consider that EN 81-58 represents a specific test for lift landing doors, so the alternative classification may not be suitable for other purposes as defined by national regulations.
