Eurocode 9: Design of aluminium structures - Part 1-1: General structural rules, also known as DIN EN 1999-1-1, provides basic design rules for structures made of wrought aluminium alloys while also giving limited guidance for cast alloys. The standard recommends minimum material thickness for components, welded components, and connections using various types of fasteners.
The standard is divided into several sections, including General, Basis of design, Materials, Durability, Structural analysis, Ultimate limit states for members, Serviceability limit states, and Design of joints. It also includes various annexes that cover topics such as execution classes, materials selection, corrosion and surface protection, analytical models for stress-strain relationship, and properties of cross sections, among others.
Sections 1 to 2 of the standard provide additional clauses to those given in EN 1990 - Basis of structural design. Section 3 deals with material properties of structural aluminium alloys, while Section 4 gives general rules for durability. Section 5 focuses on the structural analysis of structures using line elements for global analysis. Section 6 covers ultimate limit states for members, Section 7 addresses serviceability limit states, and Section 8 specifically deals with the design of joints.
