Geotechnical Investigation and Testing - Sampling Methods and Groundwater Measurements - Part 1: Technical Principles for the Sampling of Soil, Rock and Groundwater

SKU133955754 Published by International Organization for Standardization ISO Publication Date2021-10 Pages CountPages150

ISO 22475-1:2021 is a standard that outlines the technical principles for the sampling of soil, rock, and groundwater in geotechnical investigation and testing. The standard ensures that the sampling process meets the requirements for assessing the suitability of a site for geotechnical engineering purposes and determining the necessary ground characteristics in the laboratory. The document also covers the collection of information regarding the sequence, thickness, and orientation of strata and discontinuities, the type, composition, and condition of strata, as well as the groundwater conditions and interaction with soil, rock, and construction materials.

It is important to note that this standard does not cover soil sampling for agricultural and environmental purposes, which is addressed in the ISO 18400 series. Additionally, the sampling methods presented in ISO 22475-1:2021 may not be suitable for certain types of soil, such as peat with a strong fibrous structure. However, some of the sampling methods can be used for both soil and rock samples.

Furthermore, the standard does not include water sampling for quality control, characterisation, and pollution identification purposes. These procedures can be found in the ISO 5667 series.
