ISO 12578:2008 is a standard that sets out the requirements for components of glued laminated timber members and the minimum standards for the production of these members for structural use. The standard applies to products with finished lamination thicknesses of up to 50mm and is primarily aimed at coniferous species. However, it also applies to broad-leaf species if tests demonstrate that a satisfactory glue bond can be achieved.
The standard applies to structural members in all service classes but includes specific precautions for service class 3, such as the use of weather-resistant adhesives. However, ISO 12578:2008 does not cover the determination of strength and stiffness characteristics.
