JIS C 8106:2015 standard specifies the requirements for luminaires with LED light source or fluorescent lamp for commercial, industrial, and public lighting applications. The standard applies to luminaires with an input voltage not exceeding AC 300V and are used for general lighting purposes.

However, there are certain exceptions to which the standard does not apply. These exceptions include luminaires that are not intended for general purpose use, such as portable luminaires, road and street luminaires, and projectors. The standard also does not cover luminaires that use compact self-ballasted LED lamp and/or compact self-ballasted fluorescent lamp.

The standard provides definitions for general lighting, which refers to uniform lighting of the entire room rather than specific parts. It also references the JIS Z 8113 standard for further information on general lighting. Additionally, examples of luminaires that are excluded from the scope of the standard are described in the notes of clause 1 of JIS C 8105-3.
