The AASHTO M 204M/M 204-19 standard specifies the requirements for two types of uncoated, stress-relieved steel wire used in prestressed concrete applications. Type BA wire is designed for applications where cold-end deformation is used for anchoring purposes, specifically for Button Anchorage. On the other hand, Type WA wire is used in applications where the ends are anchored by wedges, and no cold-end deformation of the wire is involved, known as Wedge Anchorage.
Additionally, the standard includes a supplementary requirement for low-relaxation wire and relaxation testing. This requirement allows purchasers to specify the use of low-relaxation wire and request relaxation testing for the product if necessary.
