Standard ENStandard Method of Test for Filling Capacity of Self-Consolidating Concrete Using the Caisson Test
Also Known As:
The AASHTO T 349-13 (2021) standard is used to determine the filling capacity of self-consolidating concrete (SCC). This test method is specifically designed for SCC that has a nominal maximum size coarse aggregate of up to 1 inch (25 mm). It can also be applied to SCC containing smaller aggregate nominal maximum size.
The purpose of the test is to evaluate the ability of the SCC to flow and fill a formwork without the need for mechanical consolidation. By determining the filling capacity, this standard provides a measure of the workability and flowability of the SCC.
During the test, a caisson is filled with the SCC, and the filling capacity is determined by measuring the height of the concrete in the caisson after a specified time. The results of the test can be used to assess the overall quality and performance of the SCC, as well as to ensure it meets the desired flowability requirements for a particular application.
